BATTLE OF CONCEPCION
The Battle of Concepción was fought on 9th and 10th
July 1882, during the Sierra Campaign of the War of the Pacific (1879-1883). Heavily outnumbered, the Chilean
Regiment Nº 6 Chacabuco’s 6th Company of 77 men under the command of Captain Ignacio Carrera Pinto was annihilated by a 1.300 Peruvian
force, many of them armed with spears,
commanded by Col. Gastó and Ambrosio Salazar after 27
hour fight in the small town of Concepcion in the Peruvian Andes.
